The Heartwood Foundation was established to ensure a growing funding source for Woodland School - to create a core whereupon the school and its programs can flourish for the long-term. It is because of this idea of a core that we chose the name Heartwood, which is the hard center of a tree allowing it to grow and thrive.
Woodland’s only income is per pupil funding from the state; millage's do not apply to charter schools. We all know that expenses go up, but for many years our funding stayed the same. The goal of the Foundation is to help offset expenses for the building and grounds, materials, and school programs.
Whereas the Family Council takes care of immediate needs for the current student population, the Foundation is set up to help the school thrive long into the future.
